What should I know first?
To replace the main valve, the water is shut off before it, usually at the valve by the building water meter. In a shared building, let the neighbors or the house committee know. How is it done properly?
- Arrange the shutoff before the valve in advance, and in a shared building let the committee know.
- Bring a valve of the same diameter as the pipe.
- Clean the thread and seal the connections.
- Open the water slowly and check the valve closes fully and does not drip.
- Check the water meter stays still with every tap in the home closed.
