AC dripping water
Updated 2026-10-10
Water dripping from the AC down the wall or onto the floor means the drain is not working as it should. Most often the drain pipe is clogged, and sometimes the unit was installed without the right slope. In D-Bell you book an AC technician to find the cause, and you get a quote before you choose.
Why is my AC dripping?
When the AC cools, it pulls moisture out of the air. The water collects in a tray under the coil and leaves through the drain pipe. When the pipe clogs with dust, algae, or dirt, or gets kinked, the tray overflows and water drips from the indoor unit. Other causes are dirty filters that let ice form on the coil, and a unit installed without enough slope toward the drain.
What should I do right away?
- Switch the AC off and wipe up the water so it does not reach an outlet or a wooden floor.
- Check and clean the filters. If there was ice on the unit, let it thaw before you turn it on again.
- Check the end of the drain pipe outside: if no water comes out while the AC runs, it is probably clogged.
- Photograph where it drips and the pipe, and add the photos to the request.
How much does fixing a dripping AC cost?
Fixing a leak or drain on an AC usually costs ILS 310 to 1130. The range is wide because clearing a clogged pipe is quick, while replacing a drain pipe that runs inside the wall or correcting the unit’s slope takes much longer. If dirt in the unit is the cause, an AC cleaning costs ILS 330 to 620. An inspection visit costs ILS 260 to 380. These are average D-Bell catalog ranges.
Is it urgent?
If water drips onto an outlet, an electrical device, or a wooden floor, switch the AC off and mark it urgent for today. Urgent requests are priced at the D-Bell catalog range plus 30%. If the drip is small and you can manage without the AC for a day or two, a regular slot costs less.
How is it done properly?
- Switch the AC off and protect the wall and floor below.
- Clean the drain pan and the drain line all the way through.
- Check the unit is mounted with the right slope toward the drain.
- Check the filters and the gas, because ice on the coil also causes drips.
- Run the AC and check the water leaves through the pipe, not down the wall.
