AC compressor replacement
Updated 2026-10-10
The AC runs the fan but does not cool, and the outdoor compressor stays silent or trips the power. In D-Bell you book an AC technician to check whether it is the compressor, and get quotes before you choose.
How much does compressor replacement cost?
Replacing an AC compressor usually costs ILS 1300 to 2600. After replacement the gas is refilled, ILS 490 to 980, if not included in the quote. These are average D-Bell catalog ranges.
How do I know it is the compressor?
- The indoor fan runs but the air is not cold.
- The outdoor compressor does not start, or hums and shuts off.
- The AC trips the RCD the moment the compressor starts.
Sometimes the fault is a capacitor or the control board, which cost much less. That is why diagnosis comes before replacement.
Repair or replace the AC?
The compressor is the expensive part of an AC. On an old unit, compare the quote with a new AC with installation, and ask whether it is still under warranty. Photograph the model sticker on the indoor unit and on the outdoor compressor, and send it in the request. That way the technician knows which part to bring.
How is it done properly?
- Check the capacitor, the contactor, and the power before concluding the compressor failed.
- Compare the replacement price with a new AC together with you before deciding.
- Recover the gas in a controlled way instead of releasing it into the air.
- After the replacement, pull a vacuum and check for leaks before refilling.
- Fill gas per the maker and measure cooling and pressures.
