How much does pulling a cable cost?

Pulling a cable through existing conduit usually costs ILS 300 to 650. When there is no conduit and the wall has to be chased, it is a new electrical point, which costs ILS 420 to 770. Hourly electrical work costs ILS 240 to 410 per hour. These are average D-Bell catalog ranges.

When does a cable need pulling?

  • A dedicated line from the panel to an air conditioner, oven, hob or water heater.
  • Replacing old wires or wires that have overheated.
  • Adding an outlet or switch where there is already conduit in the wall.
  • Swapping a thin cable for a thicker one, for an appliance that draws a lot of power.

Existing conduit or chasing the wall?

When the wall has free conduit, the electrician pulls the cable through it with a fish tape, without opening the wall. When the conduit is blocked, full or missing, a channel has to be cut, a pipe laid and the wall closed. That takes longer and leaves plaster and paint repairs.

Work on the electrical panel and on fixed lines is done by a licensed electrician, as the Electricity Law requires.

What to prepare before the electrician arrives

Photograph the electrical panel, the spot where the cable is needed and the appliance it will feed. Give the rough distance from the panel in the request, so the electrician can tell whether pulling will do or chasing is needed.

How is it done properly?

  • Switch off the circuit and confirm there is no voltage in the conduit being worked on.
  • Check whether the existing conduit is free and wide enough before deciding to cut the wall.
  • Choose cable sized for the load and the breaker.
  • Pull the cable without damaging the insulation, and leave no joints inside the wall.
  • Test insulation and continuity, then connect the point and the breaker.
