How much does moving a fridge cost?
Moving a fridge within the city usually costs ILS 360 to 680. The price depends on the size of the fridge, the floors, and the elevator at both addresses. If it does not fit the stairs, adding a crane costs ILS 370 to 1620. For carrying only, without a vehicle, two helpers cost ILS 210 to 330 per hour. These are average D-Bell catalog ranges.
How do I prepare a fridge for moving?
- Empty the fridge and the freezer, and take out or secure shelves and drawers.
- Unplug it in advance so the freezer defrosts, and wipe up the water. How far in advance is in the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Tape or strap the doors closed so they do not open on the way.
- Measure the fridge and the doorways and passages at both addresses.
Upright or lying down?
A fridge is best moved upright. When it is tilted or laid down, oil from the compressor can flow into the cooling lines. So after a move, especially if it was tilted, wait before plugging it in so the oil settles back. How long to wait is in the manufacturer’s instructions. If you do not have them, ask the professional.
When is a crane needed?
When the fridge is wider than the stairwell or the elevator, or there are tight turns on the way. A large double-door fridge in an older building without an elevator is the usual case. Photograph the stairwell and the balcony and add them to the request, so the professional can tell you up front whether a crane is needed.
How is it done properly?
- Ask you to unplug and defrost the fridge in advance.
- Wrap the fridge and secure the doors so they do not swing open.
- Move it upright, or if there is no choice, on the side the maker allows.
- Protect door frames, walls, and railings on the way.
- Set it in place and explain how long to wait before plugging it in.
